On 11-14 October 2023, the Globelics international conference took place in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. The central theme of the 20th Anniversary Globelics International conference is Innovation-driven Knowledge Economies and Transformation in the Global South. This conference intends to bring together scholars across disciplines from over 50 countries to pool together experiences and expertise to reflect on varied
issues involved in the process of transforming developing economies into sustainable, resilient, and inclusive innovation-driven knowledge economies.
Johan participated online as special session proponent in the session entitled: "Policy, investment and activism for systemic transformation: Potential and barriers of Transformative Innovation Policy and Deep Transitions in Global South contexts" chaired by Bipashyee Ghosh. This session seeks to advance the theory and practice of public and private transformative investment in systems of innovation through dedicated knowledge infrastructures, the TIPC and the DTL, with an emphasis on the Global South contexts.

Approaches to transformative innovation – cases from the UNECE region

On March 7th 2023, Johan Schot participated in the UN-ECE Transformative Innovation Network (ETIN) Policy Dialogue. UN-ECE Transformative Innovation Network (ETIN), jointly with Vinnova, Sweden’s Innovation Agency, and NESTA, the United Kingdom’s Innovation Agency for social good, organized two connected policy dialogue sessions on the different approaches to transformative innovation and its application. Johan participated in the session: 'Transformative innovation: policy objectives, promises and pitfalls" with a focus on different approached to addressing the SDGs through (transformative) innovation, followed by questions and comments from other leading experts.
Workshop “Transnational Cooperation and Competition in European Science and Technology”

The workshop brings together scholars working on history and politics of science and technology in Europe. It will focus on the political, social, economic, organizational and epistemic effects of Europeanization in the field of science and technology. Europeanization is understood in a wider sense as convergence and increasing interconnectedness of science and technology across Europe, including integration efforts in the former Eastern bloc as well as pre-1989 collaboration transcending the so-called Iron Curtain.
The workshop will discuss processes of transnational cooperation, networking and integration of research policies at European level shaped scientific practices, knowledge production and technological innovation in the last fifty to sixty years. It will also discuss, however, to what extent European science and technology have been affected by opposing processes of de- Europeanization, nationalizing tendencies and competition between individual European nations.

Launching the Deep Transitions Investment Philosophy

On 16 November 2022 at 16:00-17:00 CET, the Deep Transitions project hosts an online event to present the result of their work: an Investment Philosophy for financing transformation and long-term systems change. The philosophy aims to inspire and mobilise public and private investors to recognise and activate their role as change agents for accelerating a just transition towards sustainability.
