What does system-level investing really look like?

Johan Schot joins leaders from across the global investment community at PGGM for an event on system-level investing, hosted by Sustainable Pension Investments Lab (SPIL) and the Principles for Responsible Investment(PRI).

System-level investing recognises that long-term returns depend on the stability of the ecological, social, and economic systems we all share. Pension funds have a unique opportunity to act on this insight.

The aim is to connect insight with impact — empowering investors to think systemically and act collectively in shaping the future of sustainable markets.
At the event:

 🔹 William Burckart (CEO of The Investment Integration Project) will share how international pension funds are putting system-level investing into practice.
 🔹 Johan Schot will present the Deep Transitions approach — a framework that helps investors understand and influence system change through research, experimentation, and collective action.
 🔹 Christopher Wright (Head of ESG risk monitoring at Norges Bank Investment Management) will offer a practical insights from one of the world’s largest funds.
 🔹 A panel discussion with Lars Dijkstra (PGGM), Anne Gram (ATP), Anne Kock – de Kreuk (PGB), and Christopher Wright will explore challenges and opportunities for implementation.

Moderated by Marcel Jeucken (SustFin / SPIL), the session will bridge theory and practice — helping investment boards and committees think more systemically about the risks and opportunities shaping tomorrow’s markets.
