Professor Schot has announced that he will be returning to his native Netherlands in the new year to take up a position as Professor of Comparative Global History at the Utrecht Centre for Global Challenges (UGLOBE) at the University of Utrecht. He will continue to head up, as Director, the Transformative Innovation Policy Consortium and the Deep Transitions research project.

Professor Schot reflected on his move: “I feel sad about leaving the Science Policy Research Unit, since it is a brilliant and exciting place to work. It has been a huge honour and pleasure to serve as Director for the last five years. SPRU is in a strong position, we have rising student recruitment; a healthy, and still expanding, research income; a huge global network of engaged alumni; and a strong international ‘brand’. Above all, we have an excellent group of committed researchers and teachers.  I have always been impressed by SPRU and its people, and will continue to be so. While I am leaving, we will continue to collaborate. SPRU has become an intellectual home, it is a vibrant place which will be difficult to leave. Yet all good things must end.  I am very happy to be joining the Utrecht Centre for Global Challenges (UGLOBE) in the Department of History and Art History at Utrecht University. I am looking forward to an exciting collaboration and partnership between my old and new homes, revolving around the Deep Transitions and the Transformative Innovation Policy Consortium action-research programmes. Exciting times are ahead. “

Professor Schot gave a farewell lecture on 21st November at SPRU and begins his new role at UGLOBE in January 2019.
